Andrew Carnegie provided more than $56 million to build 2,509 libraries, believing that a library "outranks any other one thing a community can do to benefit its people." A longstanding supporter of the American Library Association for more than a century, the Corporation has supported the association's I Love My Librarian Award since 2008, recognizing and celebrating exceptional librarians and their contributions to their communities.
