World Culture’s “Best Of” Only a Click Away at World Digital Library

April 21, 2009 – The World Digital Library, an online anthology of the “best of” world cultural heritage, was launched today by the US Librarian of Congress and the director general of the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco). Read the press release.

The project was funded in part by a grant from Carnegie Corporation of New York. Other funders included the Qatar Foundation, the Saudi King Abdullah University, Google and Microsoft.

The new web site offers a treasure trove of books, maps, manuscripts and films from around the world, in seven different languages. The World Digital Library bridges a cultural divide by offering people in all countries equal access to the heritage of cultures from all corners of the globe.
