Mohammad H. Qayoumi is the 28th president of San Jose State University, as well as a professor of electrical engineering. As an immigrant who arrived in 1979, he is the first person born in Afghanistan to become president of a major American university. In addition to his three decades of experience as an engineer and an administrator at several universities, he has published eight books and presented at numerous international conferences. He holds four advanced degrees from the University of Cincinnati. Updated 2012
