Harold Shapiro

Harold Tafler Shapiro served as president of both Princeton University and the University of Michigan. At Princeton, where he earned his PhD in economics, he led the most successful fundraising campaign in the university's history and increased the quality and diversity of the student body. He also served as chair of the National Bioethics Advisory Commission under President Bill Clinton. Since retiring from the presidency in 2001, he has returned to teaching and research in the Department of Economics at the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs. Updated 2012
