Har Gobind Khorana

Har Gobind Khorana

The late organic chemist Har Gobind Khorana was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1968 for developing chemical methods to determine the nucleotide sequence of RNA and for deciphering the genetic code. It was only four years later that he synthesized the first wholly artificial gene, a major landmark in molecular biology. He was the Alfred P. Sloan Professor at MIT and the Andrew D. White Professor-at-Large at Cornell University. Khorana authored or co-authored more than 500 scientific publications. Updated 2011
