National Voter Registration Day will be observed on Tuesday, September 25 this year. Endorsed by the Association of Secretaries of State, this national holiday is part of a larger campaign to get all eligible Americans registered to vote. First observed in 2012, National Voter Registration Day aims to raise awareness about the registration opportunities that abound in local communities. In 2016 more than 750,000 Americans across 50 states registered to vote on National Voter Registration Day.

Carnegie Corporation, one of several sponsors of National Voter Registration Day 2018, has long supported grassroots groups like the Bus Federation, Rock the Vote, and other nonprofits that encourage civic engagement.

National Voter Registration Day and its partner organizations have multiple resources for interested registrants:

  • APIA Vote: This organization offers bilingual assistance in English, Mandarin, Cantonese, Korean, Vietnamese, and Tagalo.
  • Democracy Works: This organization’s app, TurboVote, makes it easy for voters to register and request absentee ballots from their phones.
  • League of Women Voters Education Fund: This 98-year-old organization continues to register voters and provide election information through voter guides, candidate forums, and debates.
  • Overseas Vote: A group that works with U.S. citizens living abroad (including military personnel) to cast absentee ballots.
