The 'Root' of Strategic Grantmaking

Elihu Root, statesman, Nobel Peace Laureate and the man whom Andrew Carnegie credits with encouraging him to establish the Corporation, is recalled by Andrés Henríquez, an officer in the Corporation’s National Program.  In the current issue of the Carnegie Reporter, Henríquez offers a history of Root which starts on the quadrangle of Hamilton College, Henríquez’s alma mater and an institution where the former Senator was the proverbial “big man on campus.”
