Khayelitsha Public Library Opens in Cape Town, Joburg Library to Open in 2012

Harare Public Library in Khayelitsha, the largest township in the City of Cape Town, South Africa, opens November 17.  The new library, built with support from Carnegie Corporation of New York and the German Development Bank in a partnership with the provincial and national governments, includes Funda Udlale – an Early Childhood Development Centre. 

In early 2012, the historic Johannesburg Public Library, which also received support from Carnegie Corporation, is set to re-open.  The library has been closed since 2009 for the restoration work.
