Jordan Media Institute Starts Carnegie Corporation-Supported MA Program

The Jordan Media Institute in Amman, Jordan marked the first day of classes for its Carnegie Corporation-supported Masters in Journalism and New Media program. HRH Princess Rym launched the program with a welcoming speech to the 20 admitted students to the program.

The Program endeavors to offer the best standards of journalistic practice with an emphasis on the traditional aspects of journalism such as writing and reporting, ethics and community issues. This, combined with new media courses, will enable the Institute’s graduates to compete regionally and internationally.

The newly established Institute aims to become an unparalleled centre of excellence in the Middle East that will set the standard for professional journalism in Jordan and in the region at large. Their programs, which feature practical training, innovative curricula and world-class facilities, will enable their graduates to consistently challenge the current level of media production in the Arab world.

Support from Carnegie Corporation will provide the Jordan Media Institute access to expertise from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism to design the best-suited curriculum for them while helping to export American standards of journalism in the Middle East and increasing the principles of transparency, democracy and public service.
