Deana Arsenian: An Interim Nuclear Agreement with Iran

Opinions and positions about the efficacy of this agreement vary considerably, and its ultimate ability to reach the desired goals remains uncertain, but there is little doubt that the agreement represents a major diplomatic achievement of the Obama Administration and the new Iranian leadership.

The recently reached interim agreement between Iran and five permanent United Nations Security Council members plus Germany, to temporarily restrict Iran’s nuclear program, has caused much debate within the United States and internationally. While opinions and positions about the efficacy of this agreement vary considerably, and its ultimate ability to reach the desired goals remains uncertain, there is little doubt that the agreement represents a major diplomatic achievement of the Obama Administration and the new Iranian leadership. It is in this context that we’d like to share a public letter signed by several American ambassadors to Israel and former Under Secretaries of State regarding the agreement. Among the co-signers of the letter are current and former Carnegie Corporation Trustees. Read a copy of the letter.
