Africa’s Ph.D. Renaissance: Making African Universities Relevant
SciDev.Net’s podcast this week features a discussion with the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Ernest Aryeetey, about the major reforms needed to make African universities more relevant.
In the interview, Aryeetey discusses the importance of improving research outputs. “Without research, I just don’t see how any economy can transform in the next decade or two,” he said. “But research is expensive.”
Aryeetey offers his thoughts on where that funding might be drawn from, including greater government investment in Ghana and across the continent, among other resources. Listen to the interview below.
