Deepak Chopra, who was born in 1946 in New Delhi, India, began his career as a physician until his concern with Western medicine's reliance on pharmaceuticals spurred him to explore transcendental meditation and Ayurvedic medicine. He established the Maharishi Ayur-Veda Health Center for Behavioral Medicine and Stress Management and later the Institute for Human Potential and Mind-Body Medicine promoting a holistic approach to health and wellbeing.
