Denise A. Clare is controller, responsible for the accuracy and integrity of the Corporation’s general ledger and for supervising the work of the senior accountant and accounts payable coordinator. She plays a key role in the conduct of the annual audit and, with the CFO, is responsible for drafting the annual financial statements. She also serves as a critical liaison between the investment and finance departments, working closely with investment staff members. Prior to her appointment to controller in 2001, Ms. Clare was the investment accountant, responsible for recording and reconciling investment transactions and for calculating investment performance.
Prior to joining the Corporation, Ms. Clare was the accountant for the Nathan Cummings Foundation, with responsibilities in all areas of accounting, as well as payroll and benefits. During her tenure there, she helped manage the conversion from a manual to a computerized accounting system. Ms. Clare is a CPA and worked for four years in public accounting, three with Deloitte & Touche and one with Mitchell Titus & Company.
Ms. Clare has a B.S. in Accounting from Brooklyn College. She has three adult children and two grandchildren.
