Daniel Kitae Um is the Corporation’s Principal Designer, responsible for managing the organization’s branding and visual presentation initiatives across environmental, programs, materials, social media, and digital assets.
A strategic thinker experienced in diverse communications work with many iconic global brands, Mr. Um's past employers include Edlab – Teachers College, Columbia University; The New York Public Library; SVA: The School of Visual Arts; Interior Design magazine; Case Commons; and CDM: Cline Davis Mann.
Mr. Um's passion for effective communications drives a fresh approach toward creating new and engaging solutions that increase effectiveness in furthering the organization’s mission. He received his BA and MA in mass communications, with a strong focus on film studies, from Sogang University in Seoul, Korea. He earned his BFA in Graphic Design from the School of Visual Arts in New York City. His multilevel perspective on communications has helped him create award-winning works in education, design, nonprofits, and in the commercial sector.
Growing up in the family’s publishing and bookstore business in South Korea, Mr. Um learned from a young age about communication, influence, perception, and the value of expanding one’s mind.
Mr. Um is a five-time winner in the University and College Designers Association – UCDA, Annual Design Competition. He was also a finalist for PR Nonprofit Awards, Web Information Design; the recipient of a Digital Design Award from Print magazine; and his works were twice featured as Communication Art’s "Web Pick-of-the-Day."
