Grantee Report Finds Immigrants Provide Major Boost to NY Economy
A new independent report released November 26, 2007 concludes that immigrants
generate nearly a quarter of New York’s economic output. The report, based
on Census data and conducted by the Fiscal
Policy Institute, a Carnegie Corporation grantee, finds that foreign-born
residents were responsible for $229 billion of New York State's economy last
year — more than the individual gross domestic product of 30 states. Read
the press release.
Carnegie Corporation of New York funds grantees whose work helps to accelerate
the integration of immigrants into American society through civic education,
creating pathways to citizenship and increasing tolerance of foreign born U.S.
residents through education about their cultures.
