Crimes of War: What the Public Should Know—Now Available in English and Arabic

The Crimes of War Project, a Carnegie Corporation grantee, has announced the release of an Arabic edition of Crimes of War: What the Public Should Know, an authoritative guide to war crimes for journalists and the general public. Originally published in English by editors Roy Gutman and David Rieff, Crimes of War contains articles and legal analysis by leading journalists and jurists about the complex issues surrounding war crimes. Both versions are available in print and on-line at the Crimes of War Project's web site (see below).

Published by Azmina Publishers, an independent Jordanian publishing house, the new edition was edited by veteran Arab journalist Daoud Kuttab with legal advisor Georges Abi-Saab, Honorary Law Professor at Cairo University. The war in Iraq was a determining factor in the decision to post the book online. "We wanted to have the material available for the public to help them differentiate between war activities and crimes of war as specified by International Humanitarian Law," explained Kuttab.

Crimes of War: What the Public Should Know is also available in French, Spanish, Italian, German, Hungarian, Russian and Chinese.

The English version of Crimes of War can be found at www.crimesofwar.org

The Arabic version of Crimes of War can be found at www.crimesofwar.org/arabic. The Arabic edition is also available on CD and may be ordered from the Crimes of War Project.
