Patricia Moore Nicholas
Project Manager,
International Peace and Security

As Program Associate, International Peace and Security, Patricia Nicholas developed and implemented the Corporation's goals and grantmaking on biological weapons issues. In addition, she maintains a deep involvement in its nuclear weapons grantmaking. The Corporation is committed to ending the threat and spread of those weapons through projects that help generate and advance new ways of thinking about nonproliferation; bring together current and former policymakers, experts and scholars in Track II discussions; work to integrate the U.S. security policy and bioscience communities; and convene international forums so that scientists, scholars and policymakers can help generate ideas on global approaches to security.

Pat Nicholas joined the Corporation in what was the Avoiding Nuclear War program and can call on years of research into and relations with those in the nonproliferation field. She travels extensively for the Corporation and speaks and writes about international relations issues, particularly in the area of nuclear and biological weapons. Pat's early experience in the nonprofit arena was with New York off-Broadway and regional theater as deputy director of the Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers, and earlier at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. Pat holds a Masters in Public Administration and Nonprofit Management from Marist College and degrees in English and management and performance from Fordham University and the College at Lincoln Center.

Pat recently ended a three-year term as cochair, and currently serves as Corporation liaison, to the Peace and Security Funders Group, an international association of foundations, charitable trusts and philanthropists who fund in the field. She also represents Carnegie Corporation to the "Peace and Security Initiative", a multi-foundation funded project to define a vision and strategic agenda for the nonproliferation community; is a regular contributor to Women in International Security; and sits on the Committee of Members and Directors of the New York Regional Association of Grantmakers. Pat is married and the mother of two teenage sons.
